Founded in 1964, Panku Magazine is a student-run, bi-annual literary and art publication funded by Broward College. The namesake is the Chinese god of creation, and mythology holds that Panku created the sun, the moon, the heavens, and the Earth. Anyone endowed with creativity is said to be possessed by the spirit of Panku.
On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Panku celebrated its 60th anniversary with the volume 60 launch party and celebration taking place in the library on the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus. This event, hosted by the Panku student club and Broward College Alumni & Friends, celebrated the legacy of the longest-standing student club at the College and the works of current students and alumni who provide community with a rich depth of art and culture from this award-winning publication.
The 60th anniversary issue features work from both current students and Broward College alumni, with the current student editors choosing pieces featured in past issues and submissions ranging across six decades of Panku. Artwork, photography, poetry, stories and film are featured in the pages that provide a snapshot in time of the cultural narrative of the decades.
