Alumna Adriana Cortes is a dedicated Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) student who has achieved remarkable milestones since her time at College Academy.
After graduating from the College Academy at Broward College, Adriana began her Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. During her first summer, she studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland, for 10 weeks as part of the Georgia Tech ISyE Europe program. In addition to learning about Irish culture, Adriana dove into probability and stochastic processes, with opportunities to travel to Northern Ireland, Amsterdam, Brussels, Barcelona, London, and Scotland.
In Summer 2022, Adriana secured her first internship as an Industrial Engineer intern at Cox Automotive Inc., where she worked with mechanics in Metro Atlanta. Through interviews and system analysis, Adriana created process flow maps and established a unit cost model to calculate the daily cost of cars moving through various parts of the system.
Since Spring 2023, Adriana has served as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for several core ISyE classes, including Statistics & Applications, Regression/Forecasting, and Decision & Data Analysis. Through weekly office hours and student support, she discovered her passion for mentoring and tutoring others. In Summer 2023, Adriana completed a second internship as a Business Analyst intern with Tigris Fulfillment Partners, where she worked with the Product Data team to implement new product introductions for their customers.
Adriana completed her studies at Georgia Tech in Fall 2024, where she continued mentoring students as a teaching assistant and GT1000 Team Leader while collaborating on her senior design capstone. With a deep passion for data analytics, she has now secured a full-time role as a Technical Solutions Engineer at Epic in Madison, WI! In this exciting position, she is leveraging her analytical skills and engineering background to develop innovative solutions in healthcare technology. On a personal note, Adriana also rescued a black cat named Genie, who has been a wonderful companion throughout her journey.
