Maxwell Gosselin is a passionate entomologist and a proud member of our alumni community, who has been making strides in the fascinating world of insect research!
Max began his academic journey at the University of Central Florida as a Biological Science major, where he discovered his love for insects—particularly social insects like ants. This passion led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Entomology at a University of Florida research and extension office in Homestead.
Max’s research initially focused on aphid-vectored plant viruses and the role that ants play in worsening virus transmission in tropical fruit systems by supporting aphid populations through their mutualistic relationships. Now, his research has shifted more towards aphids, but Max remains committed to studying social insects and plans to continue this path in a PhD program—most likely focusing on honeybees. 🌿
Max’s ultimate goal is to earn his PhD and work as an extension specialist and researcher with the USDA, contributing to the advancement of agricultural practices and pest management.
Max reflects fondly on his time at the College Academy at Broward College, sharing that the experience helped him graduate a full year ahead of schedule and allowed him to take a gap year to gain valuable research experience, which was crucial for applying to graduate school.
We are incredibly proud of Max's dedication to entomology and his commitment to advancing our understanding of insect behavior and its impact on ecosystems. His journey is a testament to the power of passion, education, and perseverance.
