Mecca McDonald, a proud member of the Class of 2017, whose story is nothing short of inspiring!
After graduating from College Academy, Mecca went on to attend The Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship, where she continued to excel academically and pursue her passions. But Mecca’s journey did not stop there! Fueled by a passion for innovation and storytelling, Mecca has founded not one but two companies – a bioplastic materials startup and a film & media production company.
Recently, Mecca was accepted into a prestigious climate fellowship (776 Foundation), founded by Alexis Ohanian Sr., with a $100,000 grant to further develop her groundbreaking bioplastic materials. This work is paving the way for a more sustainable future!
On the creative front, Mecca's company, Pedestal LLC just celebrated a major milestone! Her debut short film, "Liminality," won the Grand Jury Prize at the Essence Film Festival, showcasing the power of storytelling and artistic vision.
College Academy could not be prouder of Mecca and all she has accomplished (in such a short span of time). Her story is truly a testament to the power of education, passion, and perseverance.
